Overview:

In this conference session, David Fraundorfer and Stella Stretton will explore various aspects of the justice system and the challenges it faces in the context of artificial intelligence (AI) and delays. The session will shed light on key factors that contribute to the effective functioning of a justice system, the role of AI as decision-makers, the impact of technology on legal processes, the importance of alternative dispute resolution (ADR), funding options for litigation, and lessons from international trends.

David Fraundorfer

David is partner and head of litigation at Holland Beckett Law. He has a keen interest in access to justice and has overseen a number of pro-bono cases in recent years. He also maintains an active Legal Aid portfolio, is a strong supporter of local community law centres and other community focused groups, while the Holland Beckett team has taken the lead on a number of access to justice initiatives. Professionally, David is a trial lawyer, mediator and is well known within the alternative dispute resolution area. Some of his recent High Court trials and Court of Appeal work have included negligence claims, estates and trusts matters and shareholder disputes as well as sports law cases.  

Stella Stretton

Stella is a solicitor at Holland Beckett Law who is also passionate about access to justice. Professionally, Stella works in the litigation team focussing on commercial, estates and criminal law. Her recent experience includes assisting on complex trust and estate matters in the Family Court, High Court and Court of Appeal, as well as coroners inquiries, construction claims, and criminal jury trials. Stella also holds a Bachelor of Criminal Justice, and has a particular interest in access to justice in criminal law. She is a supervised Legal Aid provider for Civil, Family and Criminal Law, and has volunteered at multiple Community Law Centres including currently at Baywide Tauranga. Her involvement in these systems allows her to offer an “on the ground’ perspective of the accessibility of Aotearoa’s legal system.
